Chemical constituents:
Fruits contain_
                                                                   i.            Ascorbic acid (vitamin C)
                                                                 ii.            emblicanin A  (37%)
                                                               iii.            emblicanin B (33%)
                                                              iv.            punigluconin (12%)
                                                                v.            pedunculagin (14%)

Medicinal and Traditional Uses:
       i.            Used as an element of Ayurvedic materia medica, and along with Harıtakı and Bibhitaka forms the famous Triphala formula, used to cleanse the dhatus of ama
     ii.            An excision in the unripe fruit is used topically in conjunctivitis.
  iii.            Traditionally used in anorexia, anaemia, biliousness, dyspepsia and jaundice.
  iv.            Useful in menorrhagia and leucorrhoea.
Reported Activity:  
          Antimicrobial, Antioxidant.
